I came across this article on "rape in American prisons" (warning: racism ahead), on American Renaissance. Prison rape is a sensitive topic that no one wants to talk about. It was touched upon briefly in a recent Hindi movie called Teen Deewarein. Otherwise, there's also the story of Shahnaz, a Pakistani woman, who accidentally made it to Indian soil, was arrested and imprisoned, and was raped in custody by the jail warden, Mohammed Din.

Thankfully, for the Americans, there's the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003. What are we Indians doing to combat this horror in our society? To the selfish: Are you sure no one from your family will end up in a situation like this?
