Hixie joins Google

More on the rich web UI front. I just read on Ian Hickson’s blog that he’s started working at Google. Hickson is the guy behind the WHATWG, a group dedicated towards making HTML 4 and DOM more suitable for web application development. If you haven’t yet, I strongly recommend going through the “HTML 5” presentation in which he gives a good glimpse of things to come.
Tomorrow is the Web 2.0 Conference. There’s been a lot of talk lately about “Web 2.0”, with few people having enough of a clue of what the term really means. Tim O’Reilly explains the concept in a recent article, in which he lists “Rich User Experiences” as one of the core principles of Web 2.0 and goes on to acknowledge Macromedia’s early involvement in the area. I really wanted to attend this conference, but due to personal reasons I couldn’t make it.
And yeah, I’ll be in San Francisco on the 10th. More on this in another post.
