Wallop: Social networking 2.0?

A couple of weeks ago, I was having a conversation with someone about killer apps, and I said that social networking sites needed to go to the next level, enabling sharing of rich media, live video chat, screen sharing, digital whiteboards, and so on. I called it “social networking 2.0”. (“Social networking 2.0?! Interesting. You should be in marketing!”) What I had in mind was something feature-rich like Breeze but on the scale of MySpace.

Today I got my Wallop invite from Ryan Stewart. First impression? Awesome user interface!

So far, I've created a home page, uploaded some pictures, posted a couple of blog entries, exchanged notes with Ryan, and connected with a couple of other folks on the network. In terms of navigation, the experience is superb. This is what we call a rich internet application (RIA).

In the “Mods” (widgets) section, I saw a little piano that I'd probably like to purchase and add to my page. It was for $0.25. Cute.
